The Middlebury men's and women's indoor track teams were in action on Friday, January 17th as they took part in a tri meet against a pair of Division I teams in Saint Peter's University and host University of Vermont. The Panthers will return to action next Friday when they take part in the McGill Team Challenge.
In women's action, Alexandra Morris was victorious in the 800-meter run by more than three seconds with a time of 2:21.68. That time is the fourth-fastest in the respective event thus far in Division III. A runner-up effort on the track came from Lauren Henry in the 55-meter dash (7.57), while Hannah Blackburn in the triple jump (34'3.5”) and Emily Mellen in the pole vault (9'10”) also tallied second-place showings.
Additional top-three finishes came from Abigail Pohl in the one-mile run (5:28.09) and Jackie Kearney (9.17) in the 55-meter hurdles.
During men's competition, Daniel Plunkett recorded the 14th-best throw in Division III of 48'11.75” on his way to a win in the shot put.
On the track, Will Bain raced home to a tie for second place in the 55-meter dash (6.73), while Sam Klockenkemper was second in the 1,000-meter run (2:38.53) and Aaron de Toledo was right behind in third (2:41.16). Additionally, the 4x400-meter relay quartet of Connor Weis, Chris Veasey, Jake Wood and Alex Ugorji sprinted across the line in second with a time of 3:46.86.
James Lynch leapt to a distance of 38'6.75” during the triple jump and finished second.
