Box Score Middlebury improved to 5-1 on the season and 3-1 in NESCAC play with a 2-0 victory over Colby (4-2, 2-2) on Kohn Field. The seventh-ranked Panthers are back at it on Sunday, hosting NESCAC foe Williams at 1:00 p.m.
Catherine Fowler and Elinore O'Brien worked a give-and-go 8:14 into the game, with Fowler netting her team-best eighth goal of the season.
Colby had a great chance to score in the 26th minute, but Deidre Miller made a great defensive save on a shot from McKayla Blanch.
The Panthers looked to increase their lead in the 52nd minute on a great feed from Pam Schulman to Lauren Berestecky, but the shot went just wide. Fowler nearly scored nine minutes later on a penalty corner, but her shot also went just wide.
Middlebury gained some breathing room with 3:44 left to play with the first of her career for Berestecky. After a pass from Bridget Instrum, Berestecky found the far side of the net from the right side to give her team a 2-0 advantage.
Emily Knapp made three saves in goal to earn the win, returning to the cage after missing the last three contests. Colby keeper Sarah Evans made nine stops as Middlebury held a 15-4 shots advantage.
