Late Goals Lifts Men's Lacrosse Over Williams

Andrew Metros scored with 12 seconds remaining to lift the Middlebury men's lacrosse team to a 15-14 win at Williams in the final regular season game for both teams. The sixth-ranked Panthers (12-2, 8-2) have earned the top seed for the NESCAC Tournament and will host eighth-seeded Amherst on Saturday, April 27th at 1:00 p.m. in a quarterfinal match-up. Williams ends its season with a 5-8 mark, 3-7 in NESCAC play.

The first half was played evenly with four different players earning first quarter goals for Middlebury, ending the first 15 minutes in a 4-4 tie. Each team added three in the second quarter, including a pair from Mike Giordano to make it a 7-7 game at the intermission.

Middlebury took over the game in the third quarter, taking a 12-8 advantage. Giordano and Darric White scored 14 seconds apart before the Ephs made it a 9-8 game. Andrew Metros scored at 7:40, followed by a man-up goal from Stew Kerr at the 1:52 mark. Joel Blockowicz scored the final goal of the quarter with an assist from Giordano with seven seconds remaining.

The lead grew to 13-8 in the fourth quarter before Williams made a charge. A pair of goals brought them within three before Erich Pfeffer answered to give his team a 14-10 lead with 10:19 remaining.

Williams ran off the game's next four goals, including one from Will Stewart with 1:38 remaining to tie the game at 14-14.

The Ephs hit a post late in the game, before Metros scored the game winner to give the Panthers the victory.

Metros and Giordano each scored four goals in the game, with Pfeffer netting two and Jon Broome adding a goal and two assists. White picked up nine ground balls to go along with his goal, while Nate Gaudio made five saves between the pipes. Brian Foster won 19-30 face-offs in the game.

Steven Kiesel scored three goals with two assists for Williams, while Conor Roddy had two goals and two helpers. Dan Whittam made five saves in goal.
