The Middlebury baseball team opened up its season with its annual spring break trip to Tucson, Arizona. The Panthers opened the season against Oberlin, falling 9-4 and 14-11. In game one, Oberlin opened up the game with three in the seventh on its way to the 9-4 win. Michael Morris went 3-4 with a double and two runs driven in, while Dylan Sinnickson was 3-4 with a double. Thomas Rafferty had two hits in the game, including a two-bagger.
In game two, Middlebury plated nine runs in the first inning on seven hits, but could not hold on. Middlebury led 11-5 after three innings and gave up eight runs in the sixth inning to suffer the loss. Alex Kelly went 3-4 with a triple, three RBI and two runs scored. Morris was 3-3 with a double and three RBI, while Sinnickson belted a grand slam homer in the top of the first inning.
The Panthers earned their first win of the season with a 19-run, 20-hit game, handing Carleton a 19-8 loss. Middlebury struck for six runs in the first and sixth innings, adding four runs in the eighth. Mark Dickerson earned the win in relief with 4.1 innings of two-hit, scoreless relief. Max Araya went 4-5 in the game with three doubles, four RBI and three runs scored. Kelly was 3-5 with two doubles, while Thomas Driscoll went 3-4 with four runs scored. Morris finished the game 3-6 with three runs scored and three RBI.
