Indoor Track Competes At New England's

The Panther indoor track teams competed at the New England Championships over the weekend. The women's team placed fourth among 23 teams at Southern Maine, while the men were ninth with 21 teams competing at Bates.

Two Panther women won New England titles at the meet, as senior Juliet Ryan-Davis (Newton, Mass.) broke her own school record with a time of 2:11.36 to win the 800. Also capturing a N.E. title was senior Addie Tousley (Kensington, Md.), who finished with a time of 4:54.15 in the mile. Middlebury's 4x800 relay team of Tousley, senior Sarah O'Brien (Wellesley, Mass.), sophomore Sarah Guth (Wilton, Conn.) and sophomore Alison Maxwell (Port Angeles, Wash.) also won their event, finishing with a time of 9:29.71.

Earning fourth place finishes were O'Brien in the 1,000 (3:00.61) and senior Grace Doering (Darien, Conn.) in the high jump (5'4.25”). Rookie Caroline Guiot (Bethesda, Md.) was second in the 3,000 (10:18.51), while sophomore Katie Carlson (Princeton, Mass.) was eighth (10:29.04) in the event. Also scoring team points for the Panthers was first-year racer Alexandra Morris (London, England.), who came in seventh (59.59) in the 400. The women's 4x400 relay team of Morris, Ryan-Davis and rookies Halle Gustafson (Minneapolis, Minn.) and Olivia Artaiz (Banks, Ore.) set a new school record with a time of 4:05.32, good for eighth place. Middlebury's DMR relay team of rookie Katherine Tercek (Los Angleles, Calif.), Artaiz, sophomore Summer Spillane (Shelburne, Vt.) and Carlson placed eighth with a time of 12:42.47.

At Bates, the men's DMR team comprised of junior Wilder Schaaf (Ashland, Ore.), sophomore Fritz Parker (Arlington, Va.), senior Patrick Hebble (Sudbury, Mass.) and senior Jack Davies (Grosse Point, Mich.) finished second overall in 10:14.71. In the 3,000 event, senior Anthony Lee (Plainsboro, N.J.) placed third in 8:35.20, while sophomore Kevin Wood (Lincolnshire, Ill.) was fourth (8:36.35).

Junior Peter Hetzler (Rumson, N.J.) placed sixth in the 400 (50.75), while junior Bryan Holtzman (Sudbury, Mass.) was eighth (7.14) in the 60. The men's 4x800 relay team of rookies Sam Cartwright (Redondo Beach, Calif.) and Lucas Carpinello (Delmar, N.Y.), along with senior Will Gibbons (Lexington, Mass.) and junior Sam Craft (Hamden, Conn.) came in eighth overall in 8:06.57.
