The Middlebury women's squash team got off to a great start in its new facility, picking up three victories over the weekend. The 17th-ranked Panthers opened play on Saturday with a 9-0 victory over #23 Colby. Later in the day, Middlebury earned a 7-2 win over #19 Bowdoin. Sunday's opponent was more of a challenge as the Panthers edged #24 St. Lawrence, 5-4.
Junior Anne Wymard (Radnor, Pa.) won a key match for Middlebury in the #2 position over St. Lawrence, saving multiple game-points in the first game to win: 13-11, 11-8, 11-4. With Middlebury stuck at four wins and needing just one more for the team victory, rookie Audrey Ellen (New York, N.Y.) won 11-4, 8-11, 11-4, 14-12 at #7 to give Middlebury the 5-4 win over St. Lawrence.
Wymard, #4 sophomore Saskia Pownall-Gray (Weston, Conn.), #5 sophomore Zoe Carey (Dedham, Mass.) and #6 senior Amanda Chen (Cranbury, N.J.) all went 3-0 over the three matches.
