Second-ranked nationally Middlebury stayed unbeaten in 2012 behind a 4-1 NESCAC victory over homestanding Wesleyan on Saturday. The Panthers upped their record to 6-0 overall and 5-0 in the conference as they remained the only undefeated team in the league, which boasts five teams in the top-20 nationally. It was Middlebury's 13th consecutive victory over Wesleyan and raised its lead in the all-time series to 26-3-1.

Senior Lauren Greer improved her scoring for the season to 11 goals and seven assists for 29 points with a two-goal effort.  Her goal with 5:43 left in the first half gave Middlebury a two-goal cushion shortly after an apparent Cardinal goal was disallowed. A pair of goals in a span of just 1:15 midway through the second half pushed Middlebury's edge to 4-0 before Wesleyan averted a shutout on senior Ashley McLaren's goal with 15:17 to play.

Middlebury doubled up on Wesleyan in the shots department with 24 to the Cardinals' 12. Greer had nine of the Panther scoring attempts.  Her unassisted tally in the second half was the final Panther marker with 18:43 to go. Earlier, sophomore Catherine Fowler netted her fourth goal of the year for the 3-0 lead. Middlebury sophomore Alyssa DiMaio opened the scoring on the day just 1:45 into the contest when she took a pass from senior Charlotte Gardiner from the right side and converted in front with a shot inside the left post.

Wesleyan keeper senior Tori Redding collected 14 saves in the contest while Middlebury netminder senior Madeline Brooks came up with eight stops.

Up next for Middlebury is a non-conference affair with Castleton St. Tues., Oct. 2.  Wesleyan will be at Bates in a NESCAC game Sat., Oct. 6 in its next start.
