Swim Teams Return To Action

The Middlebury College swimming and diving teams returned to action from the semester break with a pair of meets in Maine over the weekend. On Saturday at Colby, the women finished with a 173-103 win, while the men came away with a 164-127 win. Sunday, the women topped Bates 154-134, while the men fell 152-142.

At Colby, senior Nick Daly (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) was one of four Middlebury men to win a pair of individual events on the day. Daly captured the 50 free (22.01) and 50 fly (23.68), while junior teammate Ethan Litman (Bethesda, Md.) was a victor in the 200 (1:47.39) and 500 free (4:56.62) races. Sophomore Andrea Tibbetts (Dover, Mass.) won the 50 (25.25) and 100 free races (54.94), while rookie Lydia Carpenter (Arlington, Va.) took home the 50 (32.08) and 100 breaststroke events (1:10.49).

The 400 free men's relay team set a new pool record at Bates, winning the event with a time of 3:14.07. Litman, Daly, sophomore Mike Oster (Westfield, N.J.) and rookie James Wing (Indian Head Park, Ill.) comprised the record-breaking team. Winning twice once again was Tibbetts, capturing both the 100 (59.94) and 200 backstroke (2:12.05). Rookies Jamie Hillas (Woodbridge, Conn.) and Maddy Berkman (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y.) both won twice, with Hillas winning the 100 breast (1:07.80) and 200 breast (2:29.68), while Berkman captured the 200 fly (2:14.28) and 100 fly (1:00.22).
