Williams led 4-2 and hung on for a 5-4 victory over Middlebury (16-3) in a NESCAC semifinal match-up in Vermont. The Ephs advance to the NESCAC Championship match on Sunday at 9:00 a.m. vs. Amherst (30-1).
Williams took two of three doubles matches before Middlebury's Andy Peters earned a 6-2, 6-3 win over Felix Sun at #1 singles to tie the match at 2-2. Bryan Chow won at #5 as did Matt Micheli at #2 to give Williams a 4-2 advantage. Middlebury then began its comeback, as Brantner Jones topped Dylan Page 6-0, 7-5 at #6, before Alec Parower picked up a 7-5, 6-3 win over Trey Meyer at #3 to even the match at 4-4.
The match came down to #4 singles, where Zach Weiss of Williams had lost the first set 7-6 (5) to Middlebury's Derrick Angle before knotting the match with a 6-2 win in the second set. Weiss held serve in the third and then broke Angle for a 2-0 advantage. Angle battled back, but could not break even, as Weiss emerged with the 6-3 win in set #3 to seal the win.
