Levins Leads Men's Golf On Day One

The Middlebury men's golf team is tied for 18th place among 40 teams competing at the 2011 NCAA Championship at the Grandover Resort in Greensboro, N.C. The Panthers shot a +16 304 on the first day of competition, with Oglethorpe and St. John's tied for first – each with a two-under-par 286.

Jim Levins led Middlebury with a two-under-par 70 on day one, good for a fifth place tie among 205 golfers. The senior used two birdies on the front and two on the back to bolster his score.

Senior Brian Cady also gathered four birdies, but a pair of double-bogeys left him with a 77 on day one. Rookie Max Alley got off to a rough start with six bogeys on the front nine, but battled back on the final nine to finish with a 78. Sophomore Andrew Emerson shot a 38 on the front nine, but was +8 on holes 12-16 to finish with a 79.  Classmate William Prince rounded out the Middlebury team, finishing with an 82.
