Middlebury scored 11 runs in the first inning and never looked back, as the Panthers (6-4) topped Southern Vermont (6-11) 19-4 in the team's home-opener on Forbes Field. The game was originally scheduled to be played at Southern Vermont, but was moved to Middlebury due to field conditions.

Middlebury sent 14 men to the plate in the first inning, scoring 11 times with just two runs earned. Tyler Wark and Zach Roeder each drove in a pair with doubles, while Will Baine had a two-run single.

Trailing 13-1 in the fourth, Dave Northup hit a double to left center to plate a pair for Southern Vermont. Middlebury answered in the bottom of the inning when Michael Morris scored two with a single down the left field line to make it a 15-4 game. The Panthers added three in the sixth and one in the eighth to come away with the 19-4 victory.

Dylan Kane earned the win in his collegiate debut, allowing three earned runs, while striking out four over five innings of work. Patrick Dyer tossed three innings of one-hit ball, while John Popkowski closed out the game with a scoreless ninth.

Thomas Rafferty reached base six times in the game, going 2-3 with two runs scored and four walks to improve his season average to .475. Morris finished the day 2-4 with three RBI, Baine was 2-4 with two runs scored and three RBI, while Joseph Conway went 2-4 with two driven in. Donald McKillop scored four runs in the game, reaching base six times.

Tim Johnson took the loss, retiring just one batter while allowing 11 runs, two earned, on seven hits with three walks. Corey Armstrong had a 3-4 day for the Mountaineers, Dave Gage finished 2-3 with a double, while Northrup also had a two-bagger
