Big Start Lifts Baseball Past Plymouth

Middlebury scored 13 runs in the first three innings and never looked back, on its way to a 15-7 win over Plymouth State on Forbes Field. The Panthers pounded out 16 hits in game that was delayed 38 minutes due to rain and ended after 7 ½ innings due to darkness.

The first six batters reached for Middlebury before the rain delay. Donald McKillop plated Tyler Wark with a single to center, before Erich Enns singled down the left field line to score Danny Seymour. Joseph Conway plated Enns, before Michael Morris belted a double to left scoring Conway.

Plymouth answered in the top of the second when Joe Eramo ripped a three-run triple to right center to make it a 5-3 game. An RBI single to short by Seymour in the bottom of the inning plated Wark to make it 6-3.

Plymouth struck for two more runs in the third, with a two-run double to left center by Grant Livingston delivering Matt Koban and Dan Eagan for a pair of unearned runs.

Leading by one, a seven-run third inning gave Middlebury a 13-5 lead after three innings of play. Wark hit a two-run single to left in the inning, while McKillop plated three with a double to right center. Enns later drove in McKillop, while Morris plated Enns with a single to right for the seventh run of the inning.

A two-run double to right center by Conway in the fifth would be Middlebury's final runs, as Plymouth added a pair in the eighth.

Peter Kinchley threw two innings of one-hit relief to pick up his first win of the season, while Joe Hudson fell to 0-4. John Popkowski and John Wiet each threw an inning of scoreless relief for Middlebury.

Wark had a 3-4 day for Middlebury with a double, three runs scored and two RBI to improve his average to .667 (10-15) on the season. McKillop had another three-hit game, going 3-4 with a double, three runs and four driven in. Enns also belted three hits in four appearances, scoring three times with two RBI. Conway and Morris each picked up a pair of hits in the win.

Eramo went 4-4 with a triple and three RBI to pace Plymouth, while Mike Cappiello had a 2-3 day.
