Field Hockey With Road Win At Colby

In a game where each team had the better of play in one half, 13th-ranked Middlebury scored two second-half goals to pull out a 2-1 win over Colby College in NESCAC field hockey at Bill Alfond Field on Saturday. The Panthers break a brief two-game skid move to 3-3 overall and 2-2 in NESCAC play, while Colby falls to 3-4 overall and 0-4 in the league.

Colby had a 13-5 shot advantage and a 5-1 margin in penalty corners in the opening half. Heather Quadir scored unassisted with 10:50 left in the first half for a 1-0 lead at intermission.

Middlebury turned things around in the second half, with a 14-4 advantage in shots and a 7-2 lead in penalty corners. Sally Ryan set the tone for the Panthers by scoring just 1:10 into play on an unassisted tally. Charlotte Gardiner scored the game-winning goal with 11:11 remaining.

Middlebury goaltender Madeline Brooks had seven of her nine saves in the first half, while Colby keeper Liz Fontaine added eight of her 11 stops in the second half.
