Track & Field In Action At Open N.E.'s

The Middlebury College track and field teams sent athletes to the Open New England Championships at UMass.-Amherst over the weekend. Division I, II and III teams competed at the event, with some Panther athletes turning in solid performances.

Earning All-New England honors in the 400 hurdles was Alice Wisener (Ridgewood, N.J.). The sophomore finished sixth overall with a time of 1:02.96, qualifying for the NCAA's. In the 1500, three Middlebury women provisionally qualified for the NCAA's. First-year racer Margo Cramer (Seattle, Wash.) - 4:36.14 and sophomores Erin Toner (New Providence, N.J.) - 4:37.41 and Sophia Spring (Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y.) - 4:38.40 all finished in the top 13 overall.

On the men's side, a pair of rookie athletes earned All-New England with sixth place finishes. Michael Schmidt (Wilmette, Ill.) accomplished the feat with a time of 14:52.34 (school record) in the 5,000, while John Montroy (Mahwah, N.J.) finished with a time of 15.35 in the 110 hurdles.
