Women's Lax Comeback Falls Short At W&L

Washington & Lee held off a late charge by Middlebury as the Generals picked up an 11-10 win at home over the fifth-ranked Panthers. W&L goalkeeper Katharine Farrar recorded a career-high 21 saves in the win, while Blair Bowie made seven stops for the Panthers.

The Panthers' Sally Ryan scored with 8:57 remaining in the first half to cut W&L's lead to 4-2, before the Generals (6-3) outscored Middlebury, 6-0, over the next 23:55 to assume a 10-2 lead with 16:58 left in the game. However, the Panthers (4-1) scored eight goals over the game's final 15:01 and pulled to within 11-10 with 11 seconds left to play. Middlebury was called for an offensive foul as time expired and did not manage to get off a shot.

Colleen Evans led the Generals with four goals on the game, while Emmy Mathews added a pair of goals. Britten Mathews added two goals and an assist and Katie Flippen chipped in a goal and two helpers.

Farrar made 12 of her 21 saves in the second half as Middlebury outshot W&L, 31-9, in the stanza. For the game, Middlebury held a 45-20 advantage in shots.

The Panthers were led by Ryan, who scored four goals and tallied an assist, while Chase Delano added three goals and one helper.
