The Middlebury women's hockey team opened up its season with a 3-1 win over Connecticut College in the Kenyon Arena. The Panthers used a pair of goals from Anna McNally, as they held a 37-13 shots advantage in the game. Middlebury returns to action on Saturday when they host Hamilton at 3:00, while Conn. College visits Williams.
Middlebury opened the scoring at 3:26 as Anna McNally scored the first goal of the season for the Panthers. The Panthers made it a 2-0 game just 1:43 later, as Heather McCormack took advantage of a turnover and scored from the slot with a shot off the goaltender's pads. Connecticut College got on the board at 13:47 as Ashleigh Kowtoniuk put home a rebound after a shot from Molly Murphy was saved.
The Camels had a great chance to tie the game early in the second period, but Celia Medeiros' shot hit the post. Another opportunity came just 3:00 later, but Middlebury's Ashley Bairos cleared a puck off the goal line. The Panthers took advantage of an opportunity at 16:11 as Bairos slid a pass up to McNally for her second goal of game and a 3-1 lead.
Neither team could find the back of the net in the third period, as Middlebury came away with a 3-1 win. Lani Wright made 12 saves in goal to earn the win, while Sara Christopher made 34 stops for the Camels.
