The Middlebury College men's tennis team took part in the Stony Brook Invitational Tournament in New York over the weekend. The Panthers were joined by Division I, II and III teams at the tourney, with several players advancing deep into their brackets.

Senior Andrew Lee (Eden Prairie, Minn.) captured the 16-man "B" flight, earning a 6-4, 1-6, 12-10 victory in the final match. The "D" flight saw two Middlebury players, sophomore Eric Vehovec (Toronto, Ont.) and first-year player Spencer Lunghino (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.), both advance to the finals. Vehovec won a first round match, before winning three more times, including a 6-4, 6-7 (4-7), 10-7 victory in the semifinals. Lunghino also won a tight semifinal match, emerging with a 3-6, 7-6 (8-6), 10-8 win. Due to time constraints, the duo did not face each other in the "D" flight finals. Also advancing to the finals was sophomore Derrick Angle (Troy, N.Y.), who won three matches, before falling in the finals by scores of 6-1, 6-1.

In doubles play, Middlebury boasted both teams in the finals of the "B" flight. Angle and junior Andrew Peters (Baltimore, Md.) won the flight, dominating their first three opponents 8-1, 8-3 and 8-2. The duo earned an 8-5 win in their final match, topping their senior teammates Peter Odell (Scarsdale, N.Y.) and Chris Mason (Owings Mills, Md.).
