The Middlebury women's hockey team capped off a solid weekend at the Panther/Cardinal Classic in Plattsburgh with a 2-2 tie against the host school. The Cardinals won the shoot-out to capture the tournament title, as #3 Middlebury defeated #1 Elmira and tied #2 Plattsburgh on the road this weekend.
Middlebury led 1-0 on a goal from Grace Waters at 15:57 of the first period, with assists from Maggie Melberg and Molly Vitt.
Following a scoreless second period, the Cardinals tied the game and took a 2-1 lead in a 20 second span. Danielle Blanchard scored the first goal at 7:54, followed by a tally from Amber Ellis at the 8:14 mark.
Middlebury battled back and tied the game at 12:03 on a goal from Nora Bergman assisted by Waters.
The game remained at 2-2 through regulation and overtime, as the Cardinals came away with the tournament title with a 3-2 shoot-out win.
Lexi Bloom made 36 saves in goal for Middlebury, while Danielle Beattie made 19 stops for Plattsburgh.
