Middlebury scored four second period goals on the way to a 6-1 win over Skidmore College, Saturday at the Saratoga Springs City Rink. The win was the fifth straight for the 12th ranked Panthers who improve to 8-2-1 overall and 4-1-1 in ECAC East/NESCAC play. The Thoroughbreds fall to 3-7-2 and 0-6-1.
In a tight first period, Middlebury's Scott Bartlett scored the lone goal at 6:25 from Ian Drummond and Ken Suchoski.
The Panthers came out with a pair of quick second period goals. Mickey Gilchrist scored a power-play goal at :47 and Mack Cummins scored at 2:29 to make it 3-0. Gilchrist extended the lead to 4-0 at 13:03 when he forced a turnover in the Skidmore offensive end for his second power-play goal of the period. Drummond made it 5-0 at 17:16.
Skidmore's Joe Melnyk finally solved Middlebury goalie Doug Raeder with a breakaway goal at 11:17 of the third from Ted Gowan. Casey Ftorek closed out the scoring for the Panthers with a power-play goal from Tom Maldonado and Gilchrist at 14:10. It was Maldonado's third assist of the game.
Raeder finished with 19 saves, while Thoroughbred goalie Ted Levine had 26 saves.
