Baseball Drops Game One In At Wesleyan

The Middlebury baseball team dropped game one of a three-game set at Wesleyan by a score of 5-1 in 10 innings. The Cardinals broke-up the 1-1 tie with four runs in the top of the 10th to earn the victory.

Middlebury hurler Justin Wright turned in an amazing performance, owning a perfect game through 6 1/3 innings of work. A walk, balk and Wesleyan's first hit of the game gave the Cardinals a 1-0 lead.

The Panthers tied the game in the eighth inning, with help from a pair of Wesleyan errors. Sam Timberg reached second on an error, as did Alex Blair, scoring Timberg.

Wesleyan's rally began with a walk and back-to-back doubles, making it a 3-1 game. A triple then gave the Cards a 4-1 advantage, while they added a fourth run for a 5-1 lead. The Panthers went quietly in the bottom of the inning.

Wright went 9 1/3 innings, allowing three hits and four earned runs, while striking out four. Matt Joseph entered the game in the 10th, allowing a run on two hits.

Mark Shimrock had a double for Middlebury, while Lanahan had a single.
