Middlebury out shot Connecticut College 40-8 on the night, picking up a 2-0 win over the Camels in NESCAC play. The Panthers return to action tomorrow when they host Amherst at 3:00 p.m.
Middlebury wasted little time as Shannon Sylvester scored just 36 seconds into the first period. The Panthers held a 16-5 shots advantage after one period, owning a 1-0 lead.
The Panthers dominated the second period as well, out shooting the Camels 11-2, but only finding the back of the net once. Erika Nakamura scored the goal at 6:46 as she carried the puck in from her own zone, ripping a slap shot from just inside the blue line. Connecticut College had a great opportunity to score midway through the period with 1:57 of five-on-three play, but could not take advantage. The third period was scoreless, leave Middlebury with a 2-0 win.
Abby Smith made eight saves in goal to earn the shutout, while Gabby Petrill made 38 stops for Connecticut College.
