Field Hockey Tops Keene In OT

Dana Rye's goal at the 4:14 mark of overtime lifted eighth ranked Middlebury to a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Keene State in a non-conference field hockey game played at Owl Athletic Complex on Thursday.

The Panthers took a 1-0 halftime lead on a goal by Sophie Thompson at the 28:15 mark. Keene State tied the game two minutes into the second half when Karen Robinson took a lead pass from Marrissa Boccaccio and fired a shot past Middlebury goalie Caitlin Pentifallo for her fourth goal of the season.

The Panthers had several opportunities to score late in the second half, but they were denied by Owl goalie Sara Joyce, who had turned aside 18 shots. Joyce made a flurry of saves in the early stages of overtime, but couldn't stop a shot from Rye, who took a short cross from Lacey Farrell and scored the game-winner.

Pentifallo had three saves and Meghan McGillen stopped two shots in goal for the Panthers.
