Top-ranked Middlebury handed fifth-ranked St. Thomas its first loss of the season as the Panthers out shot the Tommies 48-15 on its way to a 3-1 win at the Kenyon Arena.
Middlebury took a 1-0 lead just 19 seconds into the game as Emily McNamara stuffed home a puck on the goal line after a save was made by Becky Kilpatrick on a shot from the high slot by Annemarie Cellino.
St. Thomas had a couple of great chances to score in the second period, the first a breakaway by Ashley Andrews that was stopped with an impressive glove save from Kate Kogut. Jackie Carroll was awarded penalty shot 10:11 of the second period, but her shot deflected off the chest of Kogut and squirted wide.
The Panthers made it a 2-0 game with 1:22 left in the period with a power play goal. Shannon Tarrant found Cellino on the right, with the rookie one-timing a rocket into the back of the net from the right face-off circle.
Just 53 seconds into the third period, Quizon gave the Panthers a 3-0 lead as she put home a rebound after a shot from Cellino. St. Thomas broke up the shutout with 1:28 left as Jackie Carroll tipped in a shot from Allison O'Hara for a power play goal with Kilpatrick pulled from the net.
Kogut ended the night with 14 saves for the Panthers, while Kilpatrick finished with 45 for the Tommies.
