The Middlebury College field hockey team opened up its 2005 season with a 4-1 win over Connecticut College on Kohn Field. The Panthers out shot the Camels 18-8 on the afternoon and will return to action tomorrow with a road game at Springfield.
Nina Daughtery opened the scoring for the Panthers as she found the back of the cage at the 29:47 mark. Ashley Lyddane scored the first of her two goals on the afternoon at 14:23 as she flicked a shot into the top right corner. The senior struck again at 20:44 of the second half, scoring while driving to the goal. Allison Smith netted Middlebury's final goal of the afternoon with 1:40 left as she converted a feed from Lacey Farrell.
Connecticut College scored its lone goal as time expired, when Alex Albright put in a shot off the pads of Middlebury goalkeeper Meghan McGillen, who ended the day with nine saves. Ashley Kenerson made 10 saves in goal for the Camels.
