Women's Lax Thumps Williams, Headed To NESCAC Final

5/7/05 - Middlebury advanced to the NESCAC Championship game with a convincing 19-5 win over Williams on Kohn Field. The Panthers will take Amherst, a 13-12 OT winner over Bowdoin, in the title game at noon on Sunday, with the winner earning an automatic bid to the 2005 NCAA Tournament.

Trailing 2-0, Williams received goals from Kaylan Tildsley and Rachel Barr to tie the game with 19:48 left in the first half. Middlebury answered with four goals in a 1:43 span to take a 6-2 lead at the 14:10 mark. Williams answered with a pair in 31 seconds to cut the advantage to 6-4. The Panthers closed the first half on a 5-0 run, including a pair of goals from Elizabeth Renehan, to take an 11-4 lead into the intermission.

Five different players scored goals in the first 20 minutes of the second half to give Middlebury a commanding 16-4 lead. Tara Boyd broke the Eph's 32:29 scoring drought at 6:33, scoring the team's only goal of the second half. The Panthers added three more goals to come away with the 19-5 win.

Twelve different players scored for Middlebury on the day, led by Kim Walker with three goals and Schuyler Winstead with two goals and two assists. Tildsley and Barr scored two apiece to lead the Ephs.
