Five Third Period Goals Lift Men's Lacrosse Over RPI

4/5/05 - Middlebury came back from a 3-1 deficit to pick up a 9-5 win over Rensselaer in men's lacrosse action on Kohn Field. The Panthers are ranked seventh in the latest Division III national poll.

Rensselaer came out strong, scoring the game's first two goals to take a 2-0 lead with 6:42 left in the first quarter. Jim Cabrera answered for Middlebury with 4:09 remaining to cut the lead in half. Adam LoGiudice gave the Red Hawks a 3-1 lead with 12:21 left in the second quarter before Middlebury scored the game's next five goals to take a 6-3 lead. Cabrera scored his second of the game at 6:18 to make it a 3-2 game at the intermission.

Dave Leach then came on strong for Middlebury assisting on the next two goals before scoring one of his own at 5:59 to give Middlebury a 6-3 lead. The teams exchanged goals during the next two minutes to leave the Panthers with a 7-4 lead after three quarters.

The fourth quarter saw man-up goals by Middlebury's Travis Meyer and LoGiudice of Rensselaer, before Mike Murray ending the scoring with a goal at the 1:29 mark to seal the 9-5 win for the Panthers.

Cabrera led Middlebury with three goals, Mark Foster had two, while Leach scored a goal and assisted on three others. Adam LoGiudice netted three to lead <?xml:namespace prefix = "st1" ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Rensselaer. Alex Palmisano made a dozen saves in goal to earn the win, while Ryan Michels made 15 saves for the Red Hawks.<?xml:namespace prefix = "o" ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
