Baseball Pounds St. Michael's

Middlebury College broke open a close game with six runs in the fourth inning and cruised past Saint Michael's College, 21-1, in baseball action on Tuesday at Doc Jacobs Field. Middlebury improves to 13-8, while Saint Michael's (3-7) three-game winning streak came to an end.

Noah Walker paced the Panthers' 25-hit attack with three doubles and two singles, knocking in six runs and scoring three times. David Riester and John Lanahan each singled three times, with Reister driving in four runs and Lanahan two. Ryan Armstrong tripled and singled to drive in two runs, while Chris Fraser pitched six innings for the win.

Neither team scored in the first two innings, with Saint Michael's wasting a bases-loaded, one-out situation in the bottom of the second. The Panthers opened the scoring with a run in the third, then scored six runs off of Everhart in the fourth to take a 7-0 lead. The Purple Knights closed to within 7-1 in the bottom of the fifth, but Middlebury scored 14 unanswered runs in the final four innings, including seven in the ninth, to seal the victory.
