Women's Lax With Convincing Win At Tufts

4/12/05 - Seven different players scored multiple goals and a swarming Middlebury College offense opened a 10-1 first-half lead as the Panthers cruised to a 19-5 NESCAC victory at Tufts University in women's lacrosse action on Tuesday afternoon.

The game was tied at 1-1 following the first of two goals by Tufts senior Jen Griffin. Middlebury scored the next nine goals, with two scores and two assists coming from the stick of Kim Walker. The visitors led 11-2 at the break.

As a light icy snow began to fall in the second half, the Panthers got the first goal from Alison Perencevich for a 10-goal lead (12-2). Tufts' Lauren Murphy later scored twice to make the score 15-5, but Middlebury closed with the final four goals in the last seven minutes.

Walker, Perencevich, Schuyler Winstead  and Liza Humes all scored three times for the Panthers. Winstead and Walker added two assists each for five-point games. Johanna Rosenfield made four saves in the Middlebury goal.

Middlebury improved to 5-0 in the conference and 7-1 overall with their sixth straight victory. Tufts dropped to 6-3 overall and 2-2 in NESCAC.
