3/29/05 - The Panther track & field teams opened their season with a pair of meets in California over the spring break. Middlebury competed at the Aztec Invitational hosted by San Diego State, while also racing at the Triton Collegiate Open, hosted by UC-San Diego.
Two Two Middlebury men qualified for the NCAA's in their first action of the season. Junior Khristoph Becker (Media, Pa.) qualified in the javelin with a toss of 190'5", while junior Kevin Bright (Sharon, Mass.) qualified in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 53.84.
Becker also broke the school record in the high jump, with a leap of 6'4.75". Two other school records were broken in California, one by first-year athlete Jimmy Butcher (Garden City, N.Y.) in the 10,000 meters, who finished with a time of 31:57.46. The other school mark was set in the 3000 steeplechase by rookie Ceara Danaher (W. Hartford, Conn.), who finished with a time of 11:37.41.
