Indoor Track Competes At N.E.'s

2/19/05 - The Middlebury College indoor track teams were in action last week at the New England Championships. The men placed 11th of 24 teams, while the women came in 15th of 24 teams competing.

Pacing the men with a third place finish in the 55-meter hurdles was junior Matt Engler (San Diego, Calif.) with a time of 7.88 seconds. Placing fifth in the 800 was senior Nick Digani (Northfield, Ill.) with a time of 1:56.53, while junior Kevin Bright (Sharon, Mass.) was sixth in the 400 (50.83). Sophomore Alex Wellman (Charlotte, N.C.) finished the pentathlon in sixth place with 2,971 points. The DMR relay team comprised of Digani, Bright, senior Jonathan Erwin (Rumson, N.H.) and first-year athlete Jimmy Butcher (Garden City, N.Y.) came in fourth overall with a time of 10:29.16.

On the women's side, senior Allison Williams (Edina, Minn.) turned in a third place finish in the 600 with a time of 1:39.98. Placing fifth (10'6") in the pole vault was senior Sarah Berkowitz (Media, Pa.), followed by first-year athlete Sarah Wilson (Winchester, Mass.) in sixth (10').
