Field Hockey Wins At Amherst

The Middlebury field hockey team improved to 8-2 overall and 6-1 in the NESCAC with a 2-1 road win at Amherst.

The teams battled for 27 minutes of scoreless play before Middlebury got on the board at the 7:17-mark when sophomore Nina Daugherty found the back of the cage after collecting a rebound from a Kathleen Boucher save. The Panthers continued to pressure, but Boucher posted nine of her thirteen saves in the first half to keep the Jeffs' hopes alive heading into the break.

Middlebury notched the eventual game-winner in the second stanza when Reid Berrien took a ball in space at the top of the circle and fired a low laser just inside the left post to give the Panthers a two-goal margin. Amherst responded eight minutes later when Molly Gilbert tallied her third goal of the season off a dish across the goal-mouth from Rachel Carr-Harris. The Jeffs continued to pressure and nearly knocked home the equalizer in the waning minutes of the game when Gilbert fired another shot on goal, but Middlebury's Janie Mackey came up with a critical defensive save to seal the victory for the Panthers.
