Middlebury exploded for three third period goals on its way to a 7-0 win over Tufts. The Panthers out shot the Jumbos 50-7 on the night to improve to 9-0-1 on the season. Middlebury is ranked first in the latest Division III national poll.
Middlebury out shot Tufts 13-0 in the first period, taking a 2-0 lead. Tim Graham opened the scoring at 7:02, with Darwin Hunt finding the back of the net with 1:28 left in the first period. Graham struck again 6:02 into the second period, before a power play goal from Justin Gaines made it a 4-0 game with 28 seconds left in the second period.
The Panthers opened the third period scoring as John Sales scored on a rebound at the 8:47 mark. Just 57 seconds later, Rob MacIntyre made it a 6-0 game as he scored with a great feed from Eric LaFreniere. MacIntyre struck again just 18 seconds later to give Middlebury a 7-0 lead. LaFreniere ended the game with three assists, while Sales added a pair.
Yen-I Chen made seven saves in goal for the win, while James Kalec and Issa Azat combined to make 43 saves for the Jumbos.
