Baseball Splits With Amherst, No NESCAC Bid

The Panther baseball team saw its post-season hopes come to an end as they split a double-header with Amherst on Forbes Field. The Jeffs win the three-game series, 2-1, and will advance to next weekend's tournament. Middlebury will play two at Bowdoin on Sunday in its final games of the season.

In game one, Amherst scored on a double-steal from first and third in the second inning, which would be the only run they needed in a tightly-contested 1-0 game. Chris Fraser threw six innings for Middlebury, allowing just two hits and one unearned run. Three different players had hits for the Panthers, including a double from Dev Talvadkar

In the second game, senior hurler Ben Christensen threw a nine inning complete game to earn the win on the hill for Middlebury. The Panthers broke open a 4-3 game with six runs in the sixth inning to take a 9-4 lead. David Riester went 3-5 with a double, triple, and two RBI, while Jim Muhlfeld had three hits, including a double.
