Middlebury gave up six unearned runs as they dropped game one of a three-game series with Amherst at Forbes Field, 9-2. The Panthers need a sweep of Saturday's double header to make the NESCAC Tournament, while the Jeffs need just one win to qualify.
Amherst struck first with a run in the fifth before Middlebury answered with a pair in the bottom of the inning. Jake Armstrong had an RBI single, while Ryan Armstrong plated Dom DiDomenico with a SAC fly.
Amherst regained the lead with a pair in the sixth, before scoring six runs in the seventh inning to put the game out of reach. Andrew Pavoni had a pair of hits to lead the Middlebury offense on the afternoon.
