Charley Howe scored the game-winner for Middlebury with 5:31 left in regulation as the Panthers held off a charge by Trinity and came away with an 11-10 win.
The Panthers jumped out early and often, taking a 6-0 lead after the first quarter. Trinity came back in the second session with four goals in the final 8:49 of the quarter to make it an 8-4 game at the break. The Bantams outscored the Panthers 4-1 in the third quarter, opening the session with three straight goals to cut the lead to 8-7. Middlebury answered with a goal from Howe at 4:37 before Trinity's Chad Burdette cut the advantage to 9-8 entering the fourth quarter. Colby Smith tied the game for Trinity at the 11:49 mark, before Peter McIntire gave the Bantams their first lead of the game at 10-9 with 9:53 left to play. Andrew Giordano tied the game for the Panthers with a nice feed from Howe at 8:21, setting up Howe's game-winner.
Howe led the Panthers with three goals on the day, while Aaron Herter netted a pair. Colby Smith, Burdette and McIntire paced the Bantams with two goals apiece. Eric Krieger made four saves in goal for Middlebury, while Geoffrey Shaw made nine saves for Trinity.
