Panthers Split With Castleton State

Middlebury and Castleton split a twinbill Saturday on a windy day at Forbes Field. The Panthers dropped game one 13-6 in eight innings before coming back to win game two, 10-9 in eight innings.

Middlebury scored two in the bottom of the seventh inning to force extra innings of game one. Castleton exploded for seven runs in the top of the eighth inning to pick up the win. David Reister went 2-4 with two runs scored, while Jim Muhlfeld was 2-3 with a pair of runs. Abe Streep also had two hits in the game, while Ben Christensen suffered the loss. 

In game two, Middlebury plated seven runs in the fourth inning to take a 9-8 lead. Castleton tied the game in the top of the seventh to force the extra inning. In the bottom of the eighth, Bryan Lodigiani plated Ryan Armstrong with a single to center to win it. Muhlfeld earned the win in relief, while going 2-3 with two RBI. Lodigiani, Reister and Liam Quinn each had two hits in the game.
