Women's Hockey Tops Williams, To Host NESCAC Game

2/21/04 - Second-ranked Middlebury picked up a 3-2 win over #7 Williams in the regular season finale for both teams. The Panthers end the regular season in a first place tie with Bowdoin, with both teams sporting 15-1 records with losses to each other in league play. With all other tie-breakers equal, Bowdoin won the coin toss, drew a first-round bye, and will host the NESCAC Semifinals and Championship on March 6th and 7th. The #2 Panthers will host a first-round game next Saturday against #7 Connecticut College at 3:30 p.m.

Emily Quizon put Middlebury on the board late in the first period as she converted a pass from Lorna Gifis for the 1-0 lead. The lead increased to 2-0 midway through the second period as Gifis scored one of her own from the left side. Williams cut the lead in half at 15:20 as Molly Wasserman found the back of the net.  The Panthers gained some breathing room early in the third period as Gifis scored on a rebound, only to have Annie Snodgrass answer for the Ephs just 19 seconds later. The game remained at 3-2 late in the game as the Ephs pulled their netminder with 1:58 to go, but could not solve Kati Madouros for the equalizer.

Madouros ended the night with 23 saves, while Fern Senior made 15 for Williams. (box)
