Men's Hockey Earns Tie With Norwich

It took a shootout to decide the winner of the 2004 PrimeLink Great Northern Shootout hosted by Middlebury College. After a 1-1 tie, Norwich earned a 2-1 win in the shootout, to capture its fourth shootout title. The game goes down as a tie with both teams moving to 3-0-1.

Norwich took a 1-0 lead at 8:43 as Jason Wilson scored from the doorstep on a rebound after Yen-I Chen made a save on Michael Serba. The game remained at 1-0 until the 5:02 mark of the third period when Tim Graham scored from the doorstep after a flurry in front.

Neither team could find the back of the net for the remainder of regulation and a five-minute overtime, leaving the contest in a 1-1 tie. James Duhamel and Garett Winder converted their first two shots, giving Norwich a 2-0 lead in the shootout. Eric LaFreniere scored the Panthers lone shootout tally.

Kevin Schieve ended the game with 23 saves for Norwich, while Chen made 18 stops for the Panthers.

Winder was named the tournament M.V.P., while Noah Lucia was named its top rookie. Middlebury's John Sales and Patrick Nugent, Potsdam's Ben King and Rob Barnhardt along with Norwich's Vadim Beliaev comprised the All-Tournament team.
