Middlebury opened defense of its NCAA title with a 9-1 thumping of Castleton State at the Kenyon Arena. The Panthers out shot Castleton 61-11, using seven different goal scorers en route to the win. Rookies James Guay and Scott Bartlett each scored a pair of goals in the win to lead the Middlebury offense. Fellow rookie Tom Maldonado dished out three assists in the game, while classmate Justin Gaines had a pair. John Sales scored a goal and handed out two assists in the win, while Yen-I Chen made 10 stops in goal.
