Four Panthers Tally Goals In 4-1 Win Over Polar Bears

Four different Panthers scored to power the Middlebury women's soccer team's 4-1 triumph over Bowdoin on Saturday afternoon.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Panthers took a 1-0 lead with 2:30 elapsed via crisp passing in the box. Mariana Rode found Noelle Mallory between a trio of Polar Bears, who tapped a feed to her right. Taya McClennen charged and deposited the bid into the left panel.
  • With 31:51 showing, Chloe Swindle stepped in front of a pass on the Bowdoin backline and guided a through-ball to Mallory for a rising finish into the back panel to double the advantage.
  • The black and white had a quality opportunity to cut into the deficit in the 15th minute, but Mary Rainey's attempt caught the woodwork and went out of play.
  • Alexandra Lieberman and Olivia Irwin-Pokorny each hunted Middlebury's third marker with on-target attempts separated by four minutes. Bowdoin goalie Ilana Posner stood tall to deny both bids and maintain the two-goal margin through 45 minutes.
  • The Polar Bears tested the waters with 1:17 elapsed in the second stanza. Jackie Shores won the race against Middlebury goalie Frankie Marston to a loose ball and flicked a rising attempt. Marston collected herself and lifted a palm to deny the point-blank opportunity.
  • In the 56th minute, Mallory found Swindle for a looping bid at the edge of the box that crept over Posner's outstretched glove and into the left panel, pushing the Panther lead to three.
  • Sarah Hall joined the scoring column to make it a 4-0 contest with 16:24 showing, settling a pass from McClennen and tucking a strong shot into the left side.
  • Bowdoin looked to get on the board in the 81st minute when Kayley Huleatt directed a free kick toward the lower-right corner of the goal. Marston dove to her left to snuff the scoring opportunity.
  • The hosts found the back of the net with 86:31 expired. Marston darted off her line to make an initial save before Jackie Shores hustled to deposit the rebound into the right panel.
  • Sofi Rua and Shores each tested Marston over the final three minutes, but the Panther turned away the chances to finalize the 4-1 decision.
NOTES
  • Mallory's five-point day (1G, 2A) paced the Panther contingent.
  • Swindle tallied her first goal and assist this season.
  • Marston tallied four saves in net.
  • Middlebury and Bowdoin met for the 50th time, with the navy and white owning a 13-7 lead over the last 20 contests.
