The Middlebury women's soccer team found the back of the net twice in the opening 30:05 of Saturday's contest to share points with #8 Colby, 2-2.
HIGHLIGHTS
- The Mules logged their first scoring opportunity with 17:08 expired in the opening stanza. Madison Genser collected and fired from outside the box, but her attempt caught the breeze and sailed over the crossbar.
- Mariana Rode put the hosts in front with 20:24 remaining, collecting a deflected ball from Chloe Swindle in the box and tapping a bid over the line for a 1-0 advantage.
- Swindle doubled Middlebury's lead in the 31st minute, stepping in front of a pass across the Colby back line and carving a path to the corner of the box. Her looping attempt narrowly missed the extended glove of Mule goalkeeper Sadie Gardner and found nylon.
- The Mules trimmed the trimmed the deficit to 2-1 with 10:08 remaining. Amanda Schneider won a battle for the ball on the right side of the box and uncorked a sharp-angle shot that snuck inside the right post.
- Sarah Hall eyed the third Panther tally in the first half's closing seconds, but Gardner plucked the bid with 16 seconds remaining to keep the one-goal deficit.
- Abigail Jarvi tested the waters 29 ticks into the second session with a shot that Panther netminder Frankie Marston had to drop to her right to smother.
- Annie Liebich maintained the pressure for Colby, humming a low chance across the grass that Marston fell on in the 54th minute.
- The Mules leveled the contest with 27:52 to go. Genser stepped to a free kick and guided a low attempt that Marston dashed off her line to deny.Jarvi followed the rebound and tucked it into the back panel to tie the match at 2-2.
- Rode eyed the go-ahead goal in the 74th minute, but Gardner scooped the bid before it could sneak inside the left post.
- Grace Missett navigated Panther pressure and directed a low bid on target with 7:23 showing. Marston stepped off her line to grab the ball for a quick save.
- Ella Caraluzzi and Jarvi each logged on-target strikes in the final three minutes that Marston denied to finalize the 2-2 draw.
NOTES
- Swindle penned her name in the goal and assist columns for the second consecutive match.
- The Panthers and Mules met for the 39th installment of the all-time series. Middlebury owns a 28-6-5 record, including a decisive 19-0-3 mark over the last 22 clashes.
