The Middlebury women's soccer team dropped a two-goal decision in Saturday's road showdown against third-ranked Tufts.

HIGHLIGHTS

• After the Panthers secured a second corner kick in the opening five minutes, Mariana Rode settled a loose ball at the top of the box and guided a bid toward the left side. Jumbo goalkeeper Gigi Edwards pounced to her right to deny the chance.
• Gigi Day tested the waters in the 21st minute, receiving a short corner and skimming a shot that Edwards corralled to keep the match scoreless.
• The hosts moved ahead with 13:33 showing on the first-half clock. Gussie Robillard delivered a long feed from near midfield into the box, where Maren Jones waited to tap a high attempt over the outstretched glove of Middlebury netminder Frankie Marston for a 1-0 advantage.
• The Jumbos looked for their second tally with 1:15 elapsed in the second stanza, but Marston scooped the roller from Emily Nicholas to maintain the one-goal difference.
• Waverly Sumner doubled the blue and brown lead with 33:05 showing, looping a bender from near the end line into the left panel for a 2-0 score.
• With 61:31 played, Taya McClennen uncorked a laser that narrowly missed over the crossbar. Day followed suit in the 72nd minute, but her attempt also sailed out of play.
• Marston made a trio of saves across the final seven minutes of the match, but the hosts controlled the closing portion to finalize the 2-0 outcome.

NOTES

• The Panthers and Jumbos met for the 37th time.
