Panthers Erase Early Deficit In 3-1 Triumph At Amherst

The Middlebury volleyball team bounced back from an opening-set loss with three unanswered frames to secure a 3-1 victory over Amherst in Friday's conference opener.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Mammoths erased an early 3-2 deficit with five of the next six points, highlighted by a kill and a solo block from Sofia Camilo, to lead 7-4 in the opening set.
  • Natalie Stanford and Molly MacDonald landed swings during a 4-1 burst to level the frame at 8-8, but three kills from Gabrielle Hines highlighted a 5-2 jolt, restoring the hosts' three-point edge (13-10).
  • The Panthers claimed four of the next five tallies to restore the deadlock at 14-14, paced by putaways from Stanford and Molly Harrison. The purple and white outlasted Middlebury down the stretch, taking 11 of the final 14 points to clinch the opener (25-17).
  • Knotted at seven each in the second stanza, Ella Beebe joined the kill column in a 5-0 Panther surge to build a 12-7 advantage.
  • The Panthers grabbed 10 of the next 13 points, fueled by two successful swings by Gabby Pribisich, to establish a 22-10 lead. Later in the set, Beebe logged an accurate attack to clinch a 25-14 triumph.
  • The Panthers got out to a 7-3 start in the third frame, spearheaded by a kill from Mischa Pendleton. The Mammoths charged back into the set via a 6-3 stint that reduced the margin to one (10-9).
  • Harrison posted a pair of accurate attacks as Middlebury doubled up its foe (15-7) down the stretch and cruised to a 25-16 decision.
  • With the Panthers holding a 7-6 lead in the fourth stanza, Hines secured a trio of points amidst a 5-1 sprint to build a 12-7 Amherst lead.
  • Harrison and Pribisich each collected a trio of kills before MacDonald thumped the hardwood to finalize the session (25-18) and the match.
NOTES
  • Pribisich finished with a team-high 11 kills on a blistering .688 hitting percentage alongside five blocks to surpass 200 rejections in a Middlebury uniform.
  • Harrison logged the 50th double-digit kill effort across her last 65 matches, posting 10 putaways and adding eight digs.
  • Campbell Bartley finished with 11 helpers to eclipse the 1,000-career assist threshold.
  • The Panthers and Mammoths met for the 52nd time, with Middlebury claiming three of the last four battles. 
The navy and white conclude the weekend road trip against #10 Wesleyan on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
