#9 Panthers Commence Home Slate With 5-0 Triumph Over Camels

The ninth-ranked Middlebury women's soccer team used a second-half scoring barrage and 90 minutes of strong team defense to best Connecticut College in Saturday's home opener from the Allan Dragone Track & Field Complex.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Panthers were first to jostle the net in the 14th minute. Mia Feldman dashed to save a ball from the end line, guiding it across the 18-yard box toward the left post where Fiona Linnau tapped in the pass for a 1-0 edge.
  • Mariana Rode looked to double the advantage with 27:06 remaining, dialing up a high bid from the edge of the box that Camels goalie Maia Kafer turned away.
  • Connecticut College had a quality look when Lucy Hurlbut took possession from 18 yards out and sent a curling shot left of the post.
  • Middlebury nearly added a third tally in the 32nd minute. Wynne Braemer uncorked a long delivery from near midfield that found a sprinting Chloe Swindle. The Panther sent a one-time bid that clipped the top of the crossbar and went over.
  • Kafer denied a sure chance for the hosts to score with 13 ticks left in the opening session. Olivia Colby had a look from the right side of the box that the netminder went full extension to pluck from the air.
  • With 1:23 expired after the halftime stoppage, Noelle Mallory sparked a quick run with an immaculate through-ball to Taya McClennen. The pass created a one-on-one chance against Kafer that McClennen deposited into the lower-left corner for a 2-0 edge.
  • Mallory flipped the script just over five minutes later, halting a free-kick find from Suzanna Fee and knuckling an attempt that trickled into the center of the net for a three-goal Panther advantage.
  • Another tally followed to arrange a 4-0 line with 28:46 remaining. After having an initial bid slapped away, Lucy King chased down the rebound and tapped it into the left side.
  • Avery Cox provided a highlight in the 69th minute, bending a solo bid into the upper-right corner to extend the hosts' lead to five.
  • Colette Iwakoshi found a quality opportunity with 7:11 showing, releasing a high attempt that the wind carried over the crossbar.
  • The Camels' final chance to erase the zero came in the 89th minute. Lucy Hurlbut fired a long ball toward the net that Middlebury goalie Frankie Marston smothered, tidying up the clean sheet and the triumph.

  • Five different Panthers logged a marker in the win.
  • Mallory notched the initial goal and assist in a Middlebury uniform, while Cox and King each posted their first collegiate scores.
  • The navy and white placed 11 of their 14 total shots on target.
  • Marston made a trio of saves to claim her fourth solo shutout.
  • The Panthers improved to 5-0-1 in the last six meetings and 19-7-3 overall against the Camels.
Middlebury concludes the weekend homestand against Vassar on Sunday, with kickoff set for 12:00 p.m.
