Panthers Post Strong Performances During Weekend Meet at Williams

Claire Palmer reset the school record in the 5,000-meter run during the FIRE meet at Williams.
The Middlebury women's track and field team posted strong efforts across multiple events during the two-day Farley Inter Regional Extravaganza in a meet held at Williams.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • During the 100-meter preliminary race, Olive Lawrence blazed to a finish of 12.13 seconds to punch her ticket to the final. She claimed the crown as well, clocking a 12.24 in the evening installment. Katie Bruno took third in the opening race at 12.52, while Melissa White finished 13th (12.78).
  • Shea Fajen climbed seven spots during the 3,000 steeplechase, finishing second with a time of 10:58.70. Janie Morganroth (11:27.28) and Grace Kaelber (11:33.75) grabbed 13th and 17th, respectively.
  • In the discus throw, Lilly Wurtz twirled the second-best toss of 43.28m on her third attempt. Lauren Sheffield sent the implement 34.47m to grab 15th place.
  • Claire Palmer's showing of 16:36.62 slotted third in the 5,000 and set a program record. Victoria Fawcett also secured a top-20 placing at 17:54.21.
  • Sharing third in the 800 were Naomi Atwood and Amherst's Zoe Marcus, who each posted efforts of 2:11.56 during the event. Atwood clawed her way up from 19th to post the personal best, while Lily Bulczynski finished 14th with a clocking of 2:20.38.
  • The 4x400 relay group of Anna Mazur, Mary Elliot, Bulczynski and Ella Pate garnered a fourth-place effort at 3:54.00.
  • Three Panthers finished inside the top seven during the 200. Pate led the way in fourth at 25.57, while Bruno (25.80) and White (26.15) locked down fifth and seventh. Pate's time was her best in a Middlebury uniform.
  • Bruno, Pate, White and Lawrence dashed through the 4x100 relay in 47.99 seconds to nab fourth.
  • In the 400 hurdles, Mazur trailed Wheaton's Kristen DiBella by six-hundredths of a second to finish fifth (1:04.61).
  • Lucy Pollitt soared to sixth in the triple jump, hitting the sand at the 11.18m mark. Samantha Czaplicki soared 10.68m to earn ninth.
  • Emma Mills qualified for the decisive 100 hurdles race with a sixth-place clocking of 14.99 seconds before trimming her time to 14.93 for sixth in the final. Czaplicki's outing of 16.80 ranked 16th.
  • With a jump of 1.58m on her initial attempt, Lily Haskins-Vaughan tied with MIT's Katherine Kempff for eighth.
  • Mary Elliot took 13th in the 400, stopping the clock at 59.48. Lawrence rounded out the top-20 finishers with a 10.01m heave in the shot put (19th).
NOTES
  • Palmer's 5,000 mark undercut the prior record of 16:36.94 set by Audrey MacLean a campaign ago.
