Adams & Messer Garner IWLCA National Honors

Caroline Adams and Caroline Messer of the NCAA Champion Middlebury women's lacrosse team garnered national recognition from the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA). Adams was named the Division III National Player and Attacker of the Year by the organization, while Messer earned the Division III National Defender of the Year nod.
 
HONOREE HIGHLIGHTS
  • Adams (National Player & Attacker of the Year)
    • Adams was named First-Team All-American and First-Team All-Region by the organization. 
    • Additionally, she logged NESCAC Offensive Player of the Year honors and garnered All-NESCAC First Team praise for the second time.
    • The Panther also secured the NCAA Tournament's Most Outstanding Player laurel and a spot on the NCAA All-Tournament team for the fourth consecutive year.
    • During Middlebury's five national tournament contests, Adams led the team in points (25), goals (13) and assists (12). She also shared the squad's top spot with 21 draw controls. 
    • The senior earned NESCAC Player of the Week on two occasions, while picking up IWLCA Offensive Player of the Week honors on two occasions.
    • Adams paced the conference in points (117), goals (72) and draw controls (124), while ranking third in assists (45). She also became the fifth player in program history to surpass the 100-point plateau in a season.
    • The attacker ends her Middlebury career as the program's leader in draw control wins (473), fifth in assists (95) and in the top-10 slots in goals (168).
    • She became the first player in program history with three seasons of 100 or more draw triumphs. 
    • Adams was a recipient of the Hazeltine-Klevenow Memorial Trophy which is the College's Senior Department Award is given to a women's team member who best combines ability in athletics and excellence in scholarship.
    • The Panther earned College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District honors and is a three-time NESCAC All-Academic selection.
  • Messer (National Defender of the Year)
    • Messer caps a stellar career wearing the Middlebury uniform with the national defender of the year distinction.
    • She was named a First-Team All-American for the first time this spring.
    • Messer earned a spot on the All-NESCAC First Team and IWLCA All-Region First Team.
    • During the championship run, Messer was second on the squad in caused turnovers (eight), tied for second in ground balls (eight) and third in draw controls (12).
    • Messer had a solid all-around game in the national championship title tilt with three draw victories, two ground balls and two caused turnovers. The defender moved into second in the single-season caused turnover list (47) during the victory, while that total and her 57 rollers ranked third among league peers.
    • She was named the IWLCA National Defensive Player of the Week for her efforts during the squad's 7-5 victory over Wesleyan in the NESCAC Championship tilt.
    • Messer finished second on the single-season list with 57 rollers and concluded her career third in the category with 153.
Adams, Messer and the Panthers captured the program's fifth consecutive NCAA Championship with an unbeaten 23-0 record. The title was the 12th overall and sixth in as many seasons that the program has competed.
