#12 Panthers Glide Past #22 Williams in NESCAC Quarterfinals

The #12/third-seeded Middlebury women's tennis team eased past #22/sixth-seeded Williams 4-0 in Friday's NESCAC Quarterfinal action from the Outdoor Tennis Courts.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Panthers quickly grabbed the doubles point to surge ahead 1-0. The duo of Lulu Wu and Ananya Annapantula earned a 6-2 victory over Jane Ladaga and Katelyn Wu in the second slot. Ren Barton and Diya Pachamuthu locked down a 6-3 decision at #3 to clinch the advantage.
  • Elsie Van Wieren logged the second tally of the match, sweeping Mia Thomann (6-0, 6-1) in the top position to commence singles.
  • Pachamuthu secured a straight-set decision (6-1, 6-2) in the fifth slot, putting the Panthers on the verge.
  • At #6, Charlotte McCann capped the result with a 6-0, 6-2 triumph over Ellie Stark to post a 4-0 decision.

NOTES 

  • At the time of clinching, Wu (#3) had won the first set by a 7-5 score against Julia Zhang.
  • Barton battled back from a 5-2 deficit in the opening frame at #4 versus Ladaga to a tiebreaker. Ladaga claimed a 7-4 decision as the match was halted.
  • Van Wieren logged her 45th career singles triumph.
  • Middlebury has won eight of the last 10 matchups against Williams. 
  • It marks the first Panther victory over the Ephs in NESCAC Tournament action.

The navy and white battle #12/second-seeded Bowdoin in the conference semifinals on Saturday at 10:00 a.m.
