Middlebury College

The #12/third-seeded Middlebury women's tennis team dropped a 4-0 decision to #11/second-seeded Bowdoin in Saturday's NESCAC Semifinal action from the Outdoor Tennis Courts. 
 
HIGHLIGHTS

• In the second slot of doubles play, the Panther pairing of Lulu Wu and Ananya Annapantula won the final three games for a 6-4 win against Suzanne Pogorelec and Cara Hung.
• Down 4-2 in the top spot, the Polar Bear pair of Bella Hartung and Zoe Sun won games seven through 10 to earn a 6-4 decision over Elsie Van Wieren and Anna Lardner.
• Bowdoin grabbed the point in the #3 position with Caroline Stuhlfaut and Naomi Williams slipping past Diya Pachamuthu and Ren Barton (7-5).
• Hartung carried the momentum into singles play, extending the Bowdoin lead with a straight-set victory (6-1, 6-1) in the third spot.
• In the #5 position, Stuhlfaut put Bowdoin on the brink behind a 6-4, 6-4 triumph against Pachamuthu.
• The match was clinched in the fourth slot when Sun posted a straight-set win (6-2, 6-4) for a 4-0 final.

NOTES

• Van Wieren and Lardner dropped their opening sets by 7-5 tallies at #1 and #2, but led 3-2 and 4-1 in the second frames when the match was called. Charlotte McCann was on the brink of securing a point (6-3, 5-4) in the sixth flight.
• Middlebury made its 24th appearance in the NESCAC Tournament.
• The Panthers and the Polar Bears played for the 50th time, with Bowdoin claiming its 20th win in the series. The meeting was the fifth in the league tournament.

Middlebury awaits its fate in the NCAA Tournament when the field is announced on Monday, May 4 at 12:00 p.m.
