#15 Panthers Stumble Against #19 Ephs

The #15 Middlebury men's tennis team fell by a 6-1 decision in Saturday's match against #19 Williams.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Panther pairing of Hugh Hentschel and Andrew Yim opened the doubles portion with a 6-2 win against Anthony Lim and Robert Cooper Jr. in the third slot. Simon Volkema and Nicholas Chen helped the Ephs level the waters with a 7-5 score at #1.
  • In the decisive second flight, Julian Wu and Noah Lewis battled to a tiebreaker. William Luke and Carter Fayard secured the initial point for Williams with a 7-6 (7-5) triumph.
  • Chen (6-1, 6-1) and Jack Ling (6-2, 6-2) earned victories in the second and sixth flights, respectively, to build a 3-0 edge.
  • Luke clinched the match at #3, posting consecutive 6-3 lines. Cooper Jr. extended the lead to five with twin 6-1 sets in the fifth position.
  • Reif Larsen secured Middlebury's point in the fourth slot, cruising to a 6-2 win in the opener before grinding out a 7-5 result during the second set.
  • Volkema secured the #1 singles win to finalize the 6-1 team outcome.
NOTES
  • The teams met in the 64th matchup in the all-time series.
The Panthers travel to Hartford on Saturday to face Trinity at 12:00 p.m.
