The Middlebury women's track and field team concluded action at the NESCAC Championships on Sunday, securing fourth place with 124 points. Tufts claimed the conference title with a score of 152.5. Williams secured runner-up laurels (135), while Amherst rounded out the top three (131).

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Lilly Wurtz hurled the discus 45.55 meters on her second attempt to claim the league crown by nearly three meters and reset her own program record. Maggie Kim logged a bronze showing of 40.11m on her final toss, while Lauren Sheffield added points with her fourth-place showing (39.44m).
  • In the high jump, Lily Haskins-Vaughan led the field with a clearance of 1.71m on her second try. The height ranked three notches higher than the runner-up effort (1.62m).
  • Claire Palmer tallied excellent showings in a pair of distance events. The rookie took silver in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 16:47.80 and added a third-place effort in the 1,500 at 4:31.89.
  • MK Cestaro also earned a top-10 placement in the 1,500 at 4:36.71.
  • The Panther quartet of Alison Rayment, Mary Elliot, Lily Bulczynski and Ella Pate contributed to a time of 3:51.71 in the 4x400 relay, good for third among their league peers.
  • Middlebury landed a pair of athletes in the top five in the 3,000 steeplechase. Grace Kaelber earned bronze with a time of 10:49.00, while Shea Fajen took fifth (11:05.34).
  • Caroline VanSchaick, MK Cestaro, Naomi Atwood and Annelise Jensen finished third in the 4x800 relay, stopping the clock at 9:11.09.
  • Fourth place awaited Emma Mills in the 100 hurdles, who completed her sprint in 14.96 seconds.
  • During the 4x100 relay, the grouping of Katie Bruno, Jazmyn Hurley, Melissa White and Olive Lawrence took fourth with a time of 47.29, further lowering a school record established by the quartet earlier this month.
  • Pate narrowly missed the top three in the 400, posting a clocking of 56.73 to earn fourth place. Alison Rayment recorded a 58.12 to claim eighth.
  • Lawrence competed in the 100, finishing fifth in Sunday's final with a time of 12.16.
  • Bulczynski and Atwood tallied fifth and sixth place, respectively, in the 800. The former crossed the line in 2:11.14, while the latter recorded an effort of 2:13.26.
  • In the triple jump, Lucy Pollitt claimed sixth by soaring 11.35 meters on her fourth try.
  • Anna Mazur dashed through the 400 hurdles in 1:04.59 to take seventh.
  • Helen Moak rounded out the Panther point-getters with an eighth-place finish in the pole vault, clearing the bar at 3.15m on her initial attempt.
NOTES
  • Wurtz dwarfed her own school record in the discus, eclipsing her toss from the Amherst Spring Fling by 1.83 meters. She has added a total of 3.98 meters to the prior record since the start of the spring. Her performance makes her the second athlete in program history to grab the discus title, joining former teammate Madeline Saunders '25.
  • Haskins-Vaughan is the first Panther to secure the high jump crown since Grace Doering cleared 1.66m to take home the 2012 title.
  • The 4x100 quartet lowered the program mark they established at the Middlebury Invitational by 0.12 seconds.
Select members of the navy and white will compete in next weekend's Division III Outdoor New England Championships. Springfield serves as the host of the two-day event, with action set to begin on Friday at 11:30 a.m.
